Ndhlovu and Ferreira take NSA Satellite 1 honours

Kelvin Ndhlovu continued his dominance of the tournament to beat Ray Simbule 11-2, 11-2, 11-1 in the final. Although Simbule was competitive in many of the rallies it was always Ndhlovu who won points with impressive retrievals and excellent placement to put his opponent under pressure. In the end the score line does Simbule a disservice but there is no argument who the better player was on the day.

In the ladies final Christine Ferreira overcame the loss of the first game to win 3-1 against 16 year old Helena Coetzee. Coetzee, slightly hampered by a leg injury sustained earlier in the tournament succumbed to the more experienced Ferreira who played clever drop shots and good volleys to take the game away from her opponent.

The B section was won by u16 player Joha van der Merwe who beat Quentin Saunders 3-1 in the final. Both were surprise finalists after being seeded 6th and 12th respectively.

Ndhlovu against Simbule in NSA Satellite 1 finals

Kelvin Ndhlovu has stormed into the NSA Satellite 1 tournament finals without dropping a game. He will face fellow Zambian Ray Simbule who had to fight off two impressive comebacks by Emmanuel Musefwe in the semi finals to eventually win 3-2.

Musefwe will play for 3rd spot against Nell van der Merwe.

In the B-section Quentin Saunders played impressively to reach the finals after being seeded 12th. He will play promising youngster Joha van der Merwe who worked himself up from his 6th seeding.

The ladies final will see Northerns u19 number 1 Helena Coetzee trying to topple top seed Christine Ferreira who has cruised into the final without much resistance.

Play starts at 9h00 at Pretoria Country Club on Sunday. The ladies final is at 11h30 followed by the Men’s A-section final.
