Uitsig Squashathon
Uitsig held their inaugural squashathon on 19/20 September with the goal of playing non-stop squash on 4 courts for 24 hours. Starting at 18h00 of Friday, with the assistance of Maryna Fourie and her enthusiastic Centurion Junior squash players, members of Uitsig Squash Club embarked on a journey into the unknown. Over 24 hours, 50+ squash enthusiasts pounded the courts only stopping for a team photo every hour. Hour upon hour various activities kept the momentum going which included playing with racquets from the 1970’s, shadowing Nick Matthews at the 2014 British Finals, and even trying out a bit of racquetball. Showing their support to the event, two of the clubs top players arrived at 02h00 for a run with the members followed by some of our provinces top first league players (Mike Tootill and Jason Phillips) making a guest appearance and giving the excited Centurion Juniors an opportunity to have a run with them. 24 hours later, 100+ weary legs and the challenge was achieved – 24 hours, 4 courts, non-stop squash!
