NMSA newsletter #6 – NMSA Closed tournament

The NMSA Closed was held at PHSOB from 7-12 August 2017. This was used by many as a last minute qualifying event for IPT selection.

–      There were 44 entrants. Six Ladies competed (1 invitational).

–      Round Robins were played in 8 sections. It was possible to schedule at least one Round Robin in each age group (except for 35-39 & 40-44 which were combined into one group, since only 2 entries were received in the first group).

–      108 matches were scheduled on 4 courts. (All, except in case of withdrawals, were completed – although not always at the scheduled times!).

We thank ALL the Entrants for their participation in and commitment towards the Tournament.

–      A  number of withdrawals, impacted negatively on the Tournament and almost wiped out one section. However, this was beyond anybody’s control and The Show went on!

Amongst these are John & Peter McLachlan whose father passed away. We extend our heartfelt condolences to them.

Every Tournament also has it Casualties – we wish Tarn Fink a speedy recovery after surgery to reattach his   Achilles which was torn off during a match.

Elsie Morkel tore her cross ligaments an meniscus during a SL17 match and also had to undergo surgery. We also wish her everything of the best!

A great thank you to The NMSA Chairman, Mr Rob More, who sponsored the cash prizes.

A great lunch was served after the Prize giving.
