Northerns Open mens quarter final results
Wednesday produced two sets of contrasting quarter finals. Andrew Martin and Kelvin Ndhlovu produced relatively straight forward straight game victories over Nell van der Merwe and Tristan Eysele respectively. Rodney Durbach was looking comfortable at two games up against Ray Simbule. Ray then dug in and the match became quite fractious with lots of nip and tuck as Ray forced a deciding game. In the end a tight match was ultimately decided by the more experienced Durbach holding his nerve in the vital deciding points. Jimmy Schlebusch produced the only upset of the quarters in a fast and physical encounter against J P Brits. J P started at a tremendous pace and put Jimmy under early pressure but unforced errors kept Jimmy in the match. In the end this was ultimately what led to J P’s downfall in an exciting encounter for the spectators to watch.
Today sees the semi-finals of the two main draws and the plate draws. Milnay Louw will take on Megan Page at 18:00 before the two Landman sisters do battle at 18:30. The first mens semifinal sees Rodney Durbach against Andrew Martin at 19:00 before Kelvin Ndhlovu and Jimmy Schlebusch do battle at 19:45.
Plate semi finals will see Sonica Fritz vs Bongi Seroto at 18:00 followed by Bronwen Doeg vs Hannelize Human at 18:30.
Mens plate semi’s see COnrad van der Merwe vs Sheldon Erasmus and Henning Holtzhausen vs Jarryd Wood.
