Northerns Open Semi-finals
Thursday evening saw the semi-finals of the mens and womens draws. In the womens draw Milnay Louw completed her calm passage through the draw with a straight game victory over a willing but ultimately overpowered Megan Page. In the other semi the Landman twins showed just how difficult it is to split them by producing a captivating and close struggle. Higher seeded Elani eventually managing to scrape through in five close games. The mens draw followed much the same script as top seed Kelvin Ndhlovu proving to be too quick and strong for Jimmy Schlebusch and maintained his unblemished record with a comfortable straight game victory. Second seed Rodney Durbach had to once again dig deep into his well of experience to overcome a strong challenge from Andrew Martin. After weathering the fast and hugely impressive start from Andrew, Rodney appeared to have taken firm control of the match after the third game. Andrew however had other ideas and the crowd were treated to a fine exhibition of squash from the two players. Rodney was ultimately able to find the right answers when it mattered but may need to find new one’s in the final to deal with the threat posed by the top seed.
The ladies plate semi-finals were duly won by Sonica Fritz and Hannelize Human although Hannelize encountered some resistance from young Bronwyn Doeg. In the mens plate semi-finals Sheldon Erasmus was made to work hard for his win by Conrad van der Merwe and Henning Holtzhausen prevailed over Jarryd Wood.
Women’s final will start at 18:00 this evening followed at 19:00 by the Men’s final. All matches are at PCC.Northerns Open 2015
